Shipping Companies Must Report Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Shipping companies covered by the EU Emissions Trading System must report emissions for 2025 to the Norwegian Environment Agency by 31 March 2026.

Published 06.03.2026

Reporting obligations

Shipping companies covered by the EU ETS must, by the deadline, submit verified emissions reports for each vessel that had port of call(s) in the EEA in 2025, in addition to a verified company-level emissions report for 2025.

By the same deadline, shipping companies must also enter verified emissions for 2025 into their operator holding account in the Emissions Trading Registry and have the quantity approved by a verifier.

The deadline will be enforced

Failure to submit emissions reports will result in sanctions from the Norwegian Environment Agency. In addition, if the verified emissions have not been entered and approved by a verifier by the deadline, the account in the Emissions Trading Registry will be automatically blocked.
